We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan NEVEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nathan, what makes you happy? Why?
When an art gallery asks you to create some paintings for a personal exhibition it is an honor and a mark of trust, and an immense happiness for an artist.
It is also a motivation to give the best of oneself and an accelerator of inspiration.

When I began a close collaboration with CODA Gallery and its wonderful team in Palm desert.
I created some new paintings especially for CODA, unexpected animals giraffes flamingos gorillas playing in front of architect of mid century desert houses A new imaginary and poetic reality.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There is a diversity of inspiration, contemplative subjects and recently new, more surprising subjects where humor rubs shoulders with poetry.

During the pandemic the streets of big cities around the world were empty, I imagined that animals came to live in these cities, nature taking back its rights.

I really like Keith Haring’s sentence:
“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further.”
I am happy to think that my paintings make the viewer smile, and bring them closer to nature, these animals that we all love and whose existence we must protect through a more reasoned ecology.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens
A unique experience in the area, Amazing time!

Enjoy the beautiful flowers and cactus plants surrounding me, a lot of animal to see and …Feeding the Giraffe. For me It is also a great experience and take the time to make some quick drawings of rare wild animals.
Many wonderful places to eat Asian fusion or modern and creative American restaurants with local ingredients in the Palm desert area.

-The Joshua Tree National Park for the diversity of plants and animals. No gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, or hotels and no water in the interior of the park with a very limited Cell phone reception : a complete adventure!!

– We probably will rent a mid century villa with pool, hope a villa creation by famous architect Richard Neutra or William Krisel?
if we are lucky!

in Los Angeles for the museums:

– Hilbert Museum , impressive collection of art showing the evolution of Californian Art.
– The Broad for Roy Lichtenstein in-depth installation.

-Long beaches beautiful sunset Venice beach, Santa Monica State Beach, Malibu , Point Dume State Beach
with a dramatic cliff’s edge.
Santa Barbara and charming Montecito area,

-Griffith Observatory on top of a hill, overlooking Los Angeles, The best thing is to go there before sunset to see the city light up. Stunning experience!
Enjoy landscapes museums rich culture and great food!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say that I thank my parents for their trust, which is never easy at the start of an artistic career and all collectors who bought my paintings.
Long time ago I met at my show an artist named Daniel Raynott he just told me how he liked my paintings, these words were so important for me. Some years later we exhibit our works at the CODA gallery in Palm Desert .The world is so small.

Sometimes opinion of elder does matter! It can be an heartwarming treasure!
